TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE (TCM)

TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE (TCM)

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic healthcare system that has evolved over thousands of years, emphasizing the body's natural ability to heal and maintain balance. It views the individual as an integrated whole, considering the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects, as well as the influence of the environment. TCM utilizes a range of therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary therapy, Tuina massage, and Qigong exercises to address imbalances in the body's vital energy (Qi), blood, and organ systems, aiming to restore harmony and promote overall well-being.

We provide TCM Treatments in areas of general wellbeing, pain management and fertility.

Acupuncture

Involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow (Qi) and promote natural healing.

Gua Sha

A technique using a smooth-edged tool to gently scrape the skin, improving blood circulation and releasing muscle tension.

Cupping

Creates suction on the skin using cups to draw out stagnation, promote blood flow, and relieve muscle soreness.

TCM FOR GERIATRICS

The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner serves as an integral part of the integrated model, providing a complementary and holistic approach to enhance Western medical treatments and address the root causes of imbalances inherent in the aging process. The service offers Geriatrics-Focused Treatments utilizing acupuncture, tuina massage, and herbal medicine for common ailments like chronic pain, arthritis, and insomnia. TCM is also strategically used in collaboration with rehabilitation specialists for Post-Stroke Recovery to promote blood flow and stimulate the nervous system. Additionally, the TCM practitioner provides Preventive and Wellness Care through personalized dietary and lifestyle counseling based on TCM principles, and addresses emotional well-being by helping to calm symptoms of anxiety and depression.

REHABILITATION

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is an essential healthcare discipline focused on restoring function, improving mobility, and enhancing quality of life through physical intervention. For geriatric patients, our Rehabilitation services are a cornerstone of our integrated care model, specifically geared toward maintaining independence. Our specialized programs go beyond general physical therapy to address the unique challenges of the elderly, including Fall Prevention and Balance Training , Post-Trauma and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation , and non-pharmacological Chronic Pain Management. We ensure comprehensive recovery and wellness through personalized plans, from restoring strength after surgery to offering Occupational Therapy to help patients adapt to daily living, guaranteeing a holistic, geriatric-focused approach.

  • ost-Trauma and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation: This service provides targeted therapy to help patients recover from common geriatric injuries or major surgeries, such as hip or knee replacements, fractures resulting from falls, or loss of motor function after a stroke. The programs are designed to restore strength, range of motion, and coordination.
  • Fall Prevention and Balance Training: Recognizing that falls are a leading cause of injury in the elderly, the center offers specialized programs to mitigate this risk. These include balance exercises, gait training (improving walking), and education on necessary home safety modifications.
  • Chronic Pain Management: The rehabilitation specialist collaborates with the Medical and TCM teams to develop non-pharmacological strategies for chronic conditions like arthritis and back pain. Treatment methods include therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and ultrasound treatments.
  • Occupational Therapy: This provides practical support to help patients adapt to physical limitations, promoting self-sufficiency. Training focuses on performing daily activities (e.g., dressing, bathing, cooking) using adaptive equipment and smart home modifications.
  • Mobility Aid Training: This service ensures both patients and their caregivers are properly instructed on the safe and effective use of mobility aids, such as canes, walkers, and wheelchairs. This includes instruction on proper fit and technique to prevent further injury.
  • Group Therapy and Community Building: Small-group sessions are offered for activities like Tai Chi, seated yoga, and low-impact exercise. These sessions provide physical benefits while also creating a social environment to combat isolation and promote mental well-being in a supportive setting.
  • Sports Rehabilitation for Active Seniors: This is targeted rehabilitation for sports-related injuries, specifically for active golfers in the nearby community. The focus is on recovery from common golf injuries, improving swing mechanics to prevent future issues, and creating long-term strength and mobility plans.
  • Support for Long-Term Disease Management (Integrated with Medical): The rehabilitation specialist designs safe and effective exercise programs tailored to the patient’s physical capabilities as part of the overall long-term disease management plan. This can include strength training to manage blood glucose for a diabetic patient or activities to improve cardiovascular health for a patient with hypertension.
  • Targeted Programs for Men's Health: Specialized programs are created for men recovering from prostate surgery or other urological procedures, focusing on pelvic floor strengthening and regaining bladder control to help restore confidence and independence.
  • Collaboration on Swallowing (Dysphagia) Assessments: The rehabilitation team works with the dental and nutrition teams to assess oral function and aid in the management of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing).
